Longings....

Tears fill my eyes as I pour over thoughtful blogs and long to return to the reflective life of reading and writing attempting to change the world...

It's been a while....

What has happened since my last blog on November 29: The Olympics began, George Bush said a lot but nothing at all, Alito was elected, civil rights lost 2 great people, Abramoff and Delay indicted but according to Dean the democrats have done no wrong (Katie Couric rocks), and a report is released in Newsweek that says boys are falling behind in school (which was predicted by the Atlantic Monthly in an article called "The War Against Boys" in May of 2000 - the Atlantic used to have this article available for free, but they have since archived and passworded all their articles), and that is not nearly all I haven't even mentioned the happenings in the middle east.

Now what has happened in the life of my wife and me? Well, my wife has started a job at the University of Virginia, I have continued to struggle emotionally through working construction (telos and praxis issues), we drove over 2000 miles during Christmas to see our families, we have decided to forgo building a house new to buying one - which will hopefully happen in the next few months, I am pursing teaching junior high math in the fall, and we discovered that Sabrina is with child, and we will be having our first baby in the late summer of 2006.

So many thoughts and emotions flood my head as I mention all of those notable occurrences in our life together that I feel I can't write about any. I fear that at this point, I have not been stimulating my mind enough, and find myself rather dry of ideas and thoughts, and feel that the things I have thought and felt are too personal to share on the internet. If you really want to know more, you can leave a comment, and if I know you, I can tell you more personally.

As I ramble, I realize that one of the news tidbits that has been on TV recently has been the crackdown on internet sex predators. It is a bit disquieting to hear about the sheer number of predators out there, yet comforting to know that the police are doing something about it. Some of these people have been high school teachers who have actually had sex with students. I beg to question, if they have idiots like that teaching high school, why can't I? It is pretty hard if you didn't major in a specific subject to work your way into the public school system. Hopefully, in the fall, I will be a junior high math teacher and be working toward full teacher licensure. It has been a crazy process. I have taken up to differential equations at the college level, and 20 credits of math and computer programming at the college level, but am not able to be certified in high school math. With the current dearth of math and science teachers, and Bush's desire to get more math and science teachers in the schools, I thought it would be easier, but alas, it's not.

Hopefully, in the next few weeks, I will blog again and have more to offer. It has been a emotionally draining few weeks and one that has lacked the intellectual stimulation I used to have on almost a daily basis.

'til next time,
DEW
